DUTIES OF A CHIROPRACTOR:

A chiropractor's job involves assisting in the early assessment and referral of patients with musculoskeletal pain to a clinician with the necessary training in the field. Chiropractic doctors have further training in patient education, health promotion, lifestyle counselling, rehabilitation, and the treatment of patients with musculoskeletal pain.

Patients typically seek chiropractic care for overall health and well-being, headaches, neck discomfort, and back pain.

PROCESS OF BECOMING A CHIROPRACTOR IN AUSTRALIA

Australian chiropractors have licensed healthcare professionals who have completed five-year university education.

• You must have completed a five-year chiropractic program that is accredited at an Australian university or college or have completed an accredited program abroad that meets the requirements of the Australian Chiropractic Regulating authority, to become a registered chiropractor in Australia.
• The education of a chiropractor never ends. To upgrade and improve their skills and keep current on the most recent scientific research, all chiropractors are required to undergo continuing professional development courses and seminars after beginning their practice.
• Australia now offers chiropractic degree programs at RMIT University (VIC), Macquarie University (NSW), Murdoch University (WA), Central Queensland University (QLD), and Australian Chiropractic College.

CHIROPRACTOR EDUCATION AND PREPARATION

·       Get a recognized bachelor's degree in health science completed first, then a two-year master's degree in clinical chiropractic. Depending on the university or college, the name of the degree may differ slightly.

·       Complete a master's degree in clinical chiropractic; complete a Bachelor of Chiropractic science;

·       After finishing your coursework, you must apply for Ahpra registration, which includes the necessary Continued Professional Development (CPD).

·       Once attained, registration must be renewed annually, proving the required CPD each time. CPD consists of training seminars and classes that help you grow and update your knowledge of chiropractic.

To keep their licenses, all chiropractors are required to participate in continuing professional education each year. A chiropractor's professional life must include continuing professional development (CPD), which upholds and enhances professionalism by requiring regular evaluation and upgrading of one's abilities and knowledge.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

·       General registration

Practitioners who meet the eligibility and qualification standards outlined in sections 52 and 53 of the National Law as well as any registration standards set forth by the Board may be granted this type of registration on registration standards.

Practitioners with general registration typically have either completed the abroad trained practitioner competency assessment process or have graduated from a program of study that has been recognized and validated by the Board.

·       Limited registration

Practitioners who meet the eligibility and qualification requirements outlined in sections 65–70 of the National Law and any registration standards issued by the Board may be eligible for this form of registration even if they are not eligible for general registration.

Limited registration may only be renewed three times, under section 72 of the National Law, however, a new application may be submitted. The National Law allows for four different limited registration subtypes, however, only two of them are supported by registration standards, a website run by the Board: subtypes:

1.     Limited registration for areas of need

2.     Limited registration for teaching or research

3.     Limited registration in the public interest

4.     Limited registration for postgraduate training or supervised practice

·       Non-spractising registration

The following chiropractors might benefit from this form of registration:

1.     have ended their professional careers

2.     Are not temporarily practising (such as when on maternity or paternity leave) or

3.     A chiropractor who practised elsewhere rather than here in Australia.

Chiropractors with non-practising registrations are exempt from the Board's registration standards requirements for professional indemnity insurance plans, continuing professional education, and recency of practice. The Board cautions all chiropractors who are considering switching to non-practising registration, though, to think carefully about their situation and the criteria for reapplying for general registration in the future. The Recency of Practice Registration Standard, which applies to practitioners switching from non-practising to general registration, establishes minimal standards to preserve the recent practice.

According to the Board, "practice" means:

Any position, paid or unpaid, where the person applies their knowledge and abilities as a health professional in their line of work. Practice is not limited to giving direct clinical care for this registration requirement. Working in management, administration, education, research, advisory, regulatory, or policy development responsibilities, as well as any other activities that have an impact on the profession's ability to provide services safely and effectively, are also included in this definition.

The Professional Indemnity Insurance Arrangements Registration Standard and the Recency of Practice Registration Standard both incorporate this concept. (Refer to registration standards.)

·       Student Registration

People who are enrolled in a course of study that has been approved and qualifies them for general registration are eligible for this sort of registration.

There is no need to apply for registration if a student is engaged in an approved program of study. Following their enrollment in the program of study, their educational provider is required to submit a list of enrolled students to the pertinent National Board.

The National Board will register the students after obtaining this list. When a student completes their program of study or stops enrolled in it, their registration with the university comes to an end.

Concerning registered students, the Board's authority is restricted to those who:

1.     maybe experiencing a disability

2.     been charged with or convicted of a crime carrying a minimum 12-month jail sentence, or

3.
