The Aboriginal Cadetship Programme is available for Aboriginal university students with an opportunity to attain paid practical experience in the health field alongside their undergraduate studies. Am I eligible to apply for the programme?

You are expected to be suitable for the programme:

Commit 52 days of employment within 12 months (commencing in either February or July of each calendar year)

Determine oneself as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander

Joining an undergraduate programme on a full-time basis at a recognised university

Where will I be placed?

The cadetship provides opportunities for placements at diverse locations, both in metropolitan and regional areas surrounding a variety of professions. If selected for a cadetship, you will be assigned to a Health Service that closely appropriates your field of study, favours, and location.

Health Aboriginal workforce target

The healthcare organisation aims to recruit an additional 100 Aboriginal employees annually. Therefore, they are striving for a workforce illustration of 3.2 per cent being Aboriginal to accomplish these goals. Presently, the Aboriginal health workforce is significantly low, accounting for only 1.1 per cent of the 44,000-strong workforce. Even though Aboriginal people constitute about 3.8 per cent of the Western Australian population and have the highest health requirements, recruitment efforts will continue as a priority until the 3.2 per cent target is achieved.

Utilising Aboriginal Cadetship and Traineeship programmes in each health service

Classify roles for the employment of Aboriginal cadets, trainees, and graduates upon programme completion.

Reserve 2 job positions in the Graduate Development Programme especially for Aboriginal graduates in Western Australia.
